Sustainable and Recycled Jewelry and Homewears

I am Cat Ivins, owner and designer of Olive Bites Studio at the Jersey shore. My jewelry and homewears (stuff your home wears) lines are called Uncorked and Polarity.

I seek to use repurposed, recycled and sustainable materials in new, unique and beautiful ways leaving the lightest possible footprint in my wake.

I am currently focused on two materials in my work; Cork and Recycled Steel.

Cork is the bark of the cork oak tree. My cork is grown in managed forests in Portugal and Spain, in a centuries-old tradition with hand tools and without fertilizers or pesticides; a process that ensures the forests will remain undamaged!

Steel's distinctive environmental fingerprint has many advantages. More than half of the steel we see around us has already been recycled from scrap. It takes at least 60% less energy to produce steel from scrap than it does from iron ore. Waste disposal problems are lessened because used steel can be recycled over and over and its magnetic properties make it easier to separate in the waste stream.

I am committed in all facets to doing more with less.
