Give it Forward Gift #19: TortillaGirl

The Gift: Chunky Cabled Collar
Crafted using luxurious French wool, this collar has a stitch pattern that makes it stylish and gives it extra warmth. The perfect accessory for children, men and women alike, it is seamless for comfort and an impeccable finished look, and hand-knit of 100% organic wool grown and spun in France. Fiber used is produced and sourced locally in order to minimize fuel and transport costs as well as to support small companies and independent suppliers.
The Artist: TortillaGirl is an American-born designer and modèliste based in Lyon, France. Her designs, built only by natural daylight from locally-sourced materials to minimize that carbon footprint, are completely original based upon her own inspiration boards, drawings and patterns, and with every piece she makes she strives for impeccable execution that often requires couture hand-finishing techniques. Conceptualizing her own ideas, testing her own patterns, creating her own prototypes and hand picking materials from local suppliers requires a lot of time and effort, but it provides a more unique item that allows for less impact on the environment.
Retail Value: $48

Give it Forward #15: Ring of Fire Pottery

The Gift: Set of 3 Raku Birdhouse Ornaments
"These adorable miniature birdhouse ornaments are a perfect addition to a holiday tree or hanging anywhere else! These little ornaments are all handmade, bisqued fired, then propane fired again in a raku kiln. When glowing hot they go into a reduction chamber to get the marvelous black smoke areas that compliment the white crackle glaze perfectly! These are great gifts for any nature or bird lovers you might know!
Made from light-weight, hollow clay with twig hanging pegs, twig perch, black twine and copper hook, 2 1/4" x 2 1/4" in size. Set of three!
The Artist: Ring of Fire Pottery is a Pacific Northwest potter, and has always loved Raku firing. Looking out her studio window one morning, she noticed her well worn, retail bought feeder just wasn't all that attractive, then it came to her! Raku bird feeders and birdhouses! So there it began and has evolved into a wonderful line of houses and feeders for feathered friends!
Retail Value: $27

Give it Forward #13: pondhopper

The Gift: AN APPLE A DAY upcycled t-shirt
This upcycled cotton t-shirt is covered in metallic silver apples. Torn strips of salvaged fabrics are gently gathered around the neckline and left with raw edges that will gently fray over time. The front has a fabric rosette with a plaited braid that follows the neckline to the back and ends with torn fabric strips hanging free down the back.
The Artist: pondhopper's work is inspired by her addiction to rescuing otherwise forgotten and discarded items; she loves the whispers of lingering stories in the materials she uses and the way they make each piece so very unique. Her approach is to create unique designs while helping to reduce the millions of tons of textiles that end up in landfills every year.
