Shop of the Week: Emily Kircher Recycling Artist

Last week, in my guest post over on Modish, I confessed my love of rag rugs. Which is one of the reasons that I think it is so awesome that we have Emily Kircher Recycling Artist here as a part of cosa verde.

Emily crochets these gorgeous rugs from scraps of old t-shirts, often embellishing them with designs and fun animal shapes. My favorite thing about rugs like these is the wonderful texture and mottled color that comes from pairing different scraps together, and I think Emily's color combinations are particularly sweet. I can see one of these in just about every room of my home!

I love this exerpt from Emily's bio, about how her rugs remind people that things can be reused and remade in this disposable culture:
"I tell them that I'm using salvaged fabric that I cut into yarn - collected from thrift stores, yard sales, and textile factories. This lets people know that items still have value after they are finished with them and can be remade into new and useful things."
