new features and techno babble
Hello! Jeff here. You probably won't hear from me nearly as much as from Liz, but I'll weigh in every now and then. I thought I'd that I'd tell you all a little bit about the technical side of the site, and then about some new features I'm working on. If the tech stuff bores you (i.e. you are a normal human being,) skip down a paragraph for the new features.
So, juicy (to me) tech stuff: first off, the site is written in Python, the best programming language, using Django, the best web framework. The database server is PostgreSQL (the best database server,) and the web server is Apache (probably the best, although I haven't tried many others.) For hosting, we're using Slicehost, which is, to date, the best web hosting company. (If you're looking for really good VPS hosting, go with Slicehost. And if you do, please consider using us as a referral with this link, to help us lower our costs.) Obviously my claims that these are all "the best" is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, but I will defend my position to the death (okay, just until you ask me nicely to stop.)
On to the new features! One of the first new features you'll see is the ability to easily import your items from several commerce sites, like Etsy and Big Cartel. Just about any site that offers RSS feeds of your items will be usable, but only if I know about them—so let me know if your favorite site that offers feeds isn't listed.
Another feature coming soon will be featured items and featured stores on the homepage. Our crack team of super-crafters will pick the cream of the crop to feature—the nicer your items and photos, the more likely you'll get picked. Sometime later, we'll also offer gift guides to help promote your work.
An important (but not very exciting) feature coming soon will be accepting payment from places other than PayPal, like Google and Amazon. Not that we have anything against PayPal—we just think you should have a choice in case you don't like PayPal.

I'd like to congratulate you on a job well done with Cosa Verde! It is very well designed and slick. I just finished setting up my shop and it was so easy. Now with the new feature of importing items directly from Etsy, it will be even easier for others. Best wishes for lots of success!

Thank you--that's nice to hear. It was (and still is) a *lot* of work. I hope to be done with the RSS-import-thingy this week--I'll post something up here when I'm done.
