inspiration: michelle brand

I spotted these over at iDiY this week, and I couldn't help myself—I had to pass these on for your inspiration. These amazing fixtures are made by artist Michelle Brand. Look closely, these curtains and chandeliers are made from the bottoms of plastic bottles!

I love the way that these plastic curtains take on a light, feminine flowery feel in the natural light, but transform into very sophisticated lighting when hung as chandeliers.

These photos above remind me of this chandelier by gulguvenc, also made from old PET bottles.

Oh it was so much fun featuring so many of our artists in the past week and a half, but it does feel good to be back to the regular blog. I'm going to be mixing things up a little more over the next few weeks—still trying to find the right balance between awesome products, fun features and inspiration and resources.

Incredible! She must heat the edges for that look (fumes?)...but so incredible! Oh man, I'd love to try that!

i looooove the gulguvenc stuff. just...wow. i have been admiring it for a while.

Yeah, I'd like to try that, too--just as soon as I A) get a heat gun, and B) figure out how not to choke on the fumes I'm sure that gives off.

I thought they were heat gunned too - but they aren't - they're simply cut off the bottom of 2 liter and 20 oz bottles like Pepsi - just checked the bottom of my Diet Pepsi and there it was, flower shape and all.

i did this my freshman year of architecture at rpi... and she gets paid to do this!!
really lovely, though

Does anyone know what the maximum wattage bulb that can be used with a plastic chandelier like this. Also, how are the holes created for threading the fishing line --- if that's what used to string together the soda bottle bottoms. Thanks!

This is simply amazing. I love the shower curtain application. My sister is always looking for fun ideas like this!
